A Roaring Lion

Proverbs 20:2
“The wrath of a king is like the roaring of a lion; Whoever provokes him to anger sins against his own life.”

The Bible says that the devil goes around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.  Here’s why.

–

In the Old Testament, if the king was angry at you, you definitely had cause to fear because judgment was soon to follow.  His anger was referred to as “Roaring.” Under the old covenant, “Teeth” were involved, you see.  But there’s been a change!  Under the New Covenant, we have a better deal! 😀 ♥️

That old, roaring lion, the devil, no longer has any right to accuse us because Jesus satisfied ALL the claims of the Law on us.  You might say he was given a PhD by Jesus–PERMANENT HEAD DAMAGE, that is. He goes about “AS” a roaring lion, (meaning he’s all roar, no “teeth”), seeking whom he may devour.  This implies not everyone is devourable.  That’s why he’s “seeking.”

Who can he devour and why?  Definitely, all unbelievers fall into that category, but believers can too.  Can you become “UNdevourable?”  Yes!

Believers who KNOW their New Covenent, bought and paid for by the precious blood of our Lord Jesus Himself, leave a bad taste in his mouth…..if he is foolish enough to attack us. Believers who don’t know who they are in Christ, however, can fall prey to his tactics, so it pays to KNOW your true identity.

For those outside of Christ, however, all bets are off.  They are completely subject to the devil’s whim.  No recourse.  No defense. 😔 Why?  Because they have no covenant with God.  That’s why it is so important it is to be in covenant with Him.  It isn’t just a nice idea:  IT’S ABSOLUTELY VITAL!  We need Him to defend us.  Mere humans are no match for old slimy.

You see, because of the terms of our lease given to Adam in the garden, God cannot just intervene in the affairs of men unless we agree to allow Him in.  A Covenant with Him allows Him to help us.  It is even more binding than a mere agreement between two parties.  This one is sealed by the shedding of Jesus’ blood.

How can you have a Covenant with God?  Simply accept the free gift of Jesus’ sacrifice on your behalf.  Thank Him for paying for your sin debt for you, the one that all us owe him, especially since there isn’t any other way to repay Him.  But…..you have to ask Him for it.  It is not universal or automatic.  Jesus takes care of the rest.

God says in Isaiah 54:9-10: “9 For as I have sworn that the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth, So have I sworn That I WOULD NOT BE ANGRY WITH YOU, NOR REBUKE YOU. For the mountains shall depart 10 And the hills be removed, But My kindness SHALL NOT depart from you, Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,” Says the LORD, who has mercy on you.”

See?  He will NEVER AGAIN be angry with us…..EVER.  ALL His righteous wrath and judgment was exhausted in the body of our Lord Jesus 2,000 years ago until there was NONE LEFT! HALLELUIA!!!…..and never means NEVER!

In fact, God is not angry with anyone anymore, yes even unbelievers.  Bet you never heard that in Church, have you?  The only barrier between us and God is the matter of “Have you accepted the payment on your behalf…..or not.  Have you accepted Jesus’ payment for you…..or not?  The door is still open!

Young, strong, healthy lions that are agile enough to hunt creep about SILENTLY.  They stalk their prey and then strike without warning.  If they made any kind of sound, they would alert their quarry, giving it a chance to escape.

Only old, feeble, toothless lions…you know, USELESS ones…that can no longer move much, let alone hunt, are the ones that roar.  All they do is sit around and nap….a lot…..because, as I said, they are USELESS:  All roar, no bite.  They can’t harm anybody.

And that, Church, is why the useless, pointless, UTTERLY DEFEATED, head-bashed-in-by-Jesus ol’ devil is depicted “AS” a roaring lion.
