The Five Offerings Of Leviticus, Part 10 of 10: New Covenant Application

Five Offerings–One Perfect Sacrifice:  Jesus, The Lamb Of God!

John 17:1-4
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”

Everything in the New Testament can be found hidden somewhere in the Old.  Conversely, everything hidden in Old can be found revealed in the New Covenant with application for our dispensation.

Aren’t you glad we no longer have to offer bulls and goats?  HALLELUJAH!!! Jesus was the perfect sacrifice that ended them ALL! 🙌🏻💖  That is why we no longer look to the Old for laws, laws, and more laws, but look to bring out the spirit of the Law: To see Jesus!

Do these offerings apply to us who are under the New Covenant?  Yes!  How? That’s what we are going to study! ♥️

Grace And Peace.

In these five offerings of Leviticus we have seen beautiful, detailed, and sometimes very graphic pictures of Jesus, what did for us at the cross, and what He suffered.  In the opening passage is Jesus’ high priestly prayer.  It was spoken to His Father on behalf of you and me.  His earnest desire was: “That they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” John 17:1-2.

In 2 Peter 1:2 The Apostle Peter wrote, “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord…”  Studying all these things will cause us to “Grow in the knowledge of God and Jesus Christ, Whom He has sent,” causing grace and peace to be multiplied in our lives as a byproduct!

New Testament Application.
Believe it or not, under the New Covenant we are still offer the Burnt offering, the Grain, and the Peace offerings.  However, no longer do we offer the sin and trespass offerings.  What would it look like if we offered the last two under our dispensation?  –

Let’s say you really messed up and you promise God that, if He gets you out of this mess, you’ll serve Him for the rest of your life. That’s like saying you want to DO something to pay for your sin.  In effect, you are actually saying that what Jesus did at the cross was not completely effectual.  As honorable as your intentions are, you are, in effect, actually trampling on His blood. 😲 I’m sure you don’t really want to do that

Free Gift.

Church, there is nothing you can do to earn forgiveness…..for anything.  It’s a free freely gift offered to you.  If you could earn His forgiveness, it would be a reward, not a gift.  All you can do is confess your sin, thank Him for the forgiveness that was already supplied for your WHOLE LIFE the day you were saved, and ask Him to help you improve in your area of weakness.

By accepting Christ as our Savior, He has taken care of our sin nature (what we are) and our sinning (what we do) once and for all.  We walk through life with His covering…..remember the hide of the bullock…..and thus have the same acceptance, or “Radzon,” before God as Jesus.

Does that mean we walk through life perfectly, doing no wrong?  Of course not; but as we occasionally sin, those thoughts, words, and deeds are ALREADY COVERED. Therefore we don’t pray TO BE FORGIVEN; we confess our sins BECAUSE WE ALREADY ARE.

New Testament Offerings.

The first three offerings that are a sweet savor to God, however, we do offer today.  How?  Consider the following verses:

Hosea 14:1-2
“O Israel, return unto the Lord thy God;
for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.
Take with you words, and turn to the Lord:
say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously:
so will we render the calves of our lips.

What does it mean:  “The CALVES of our lips?”  That we have lips as fat as a cow?  No. 😊 The verse in Hebrews below explains it for us:

Hebrew 13:15-16
“By him (Jesus) therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”

Instead of offering bulls and goats, our praise to God with the “calves of our lips” are the “sacrifices we offer to God!

Sweet Smelling Aroma.
Consider also these two verses:
Ephesians 5:2
“And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.”

Phillipians 4:18-19
“Indeed I have all and abound. I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God. And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

“A Sweet smelling aroma.”  Hmmm…..Sound familiar?  It should!  That’s what God smelled when Noah offered his Burnt Offering.  And what was the result?  God vowed He would NEVER destroy the whole world with a flood ever again.

When the Burnt Offering goes up by the “calves of our lips,” the blessings come down to God’s people!  There are showers of blessings!  The reference in Phillipians called the financial blessing of the brothers and sisters who contributed to Christian work as well as the tithe “a sweet smelling aroma, a sacrifice well-pleasing to God.”

The Successful Christian Life.
The secret to successfully walking through life as a believer is found in these two verses.  Both Jesus and the Apostle Peter clearly show us what that secret is:  “To know You (the Father) and Jesus Christ, Whom He has sent.”  By increasing in this knowledge, both grace and peace (shalom) WILL BE MULTIPLIED TO US.  I WANT THAT!

Shalom:  A Very Rich Word.

Grace is “unmerited favor.”  Peace: “Shalom in Hebrew, in Greek: “Soteria,” is a very rich word.  It is wholeness in every area:  Peace of mind, which includes freedom from fear, prosperity in your life, in your relationships and in your finances, and wholeness in your mind and in your emotions.  These things are “MULTIPLIED” to you as your knowledge of Jesus increases.

Why We Study These Offerings.
Can knowledge of these things help you in your daily Christian walk, when the heat is on?  Can they help when you are sick, when challenges in life rise up, or when us or your family is under attack by the enemy?  Yes, because you are INCREASING IN YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS!

The Emmaus Principle.
The very first record of Jesus appearing to His disciples after His resurrection was on the Emmaus Road.  He went through all the Law and the Prophets and explained to them “All the scriptures CONCERNING HIMSELF.”  And what was the effect?  They were so encouraged and so energized they practically ran all the way back to Jerusalem!

Folks, that is a seven-mile trek…..and it was nearly dark when they returned to Jerusalem.  Amazing! That’s how excited they were. 😮 That’s how energized they were.  And the first thing they wanted to do was share Jesus with their fellow believers!

This is a big secret for all you pastors out there.  Show your people Jesus in all the scriptures.  Bring out Jesus in the Old.  Show them where the New is hidden in the Old.  I guarantee you your Church will grow so much, you’ll have to add on to your building!  And you won’t have to tell your people to go out and evangelize; they won’t be able to shut up!

Fighting The Fight Of Faith.
Another perk of studying the Old Testament and seeing Jesus in all the scriptures about Him helps us in fighting the good fight of faith.

Think about it:  When Jesus was tested of the devil in the wilderness, what did He do?  He could have said or done anything He wanted to, right?  After all, He is the Son of God.  But what did He do to defeat the devil EVERY TIME?  HE SPOKE OUT THE WRITTEN WORD OF GOD.  “It is written…” “It is written…” It is written…”

That’s how you “resist the devil” so he will flee from you:  Speak out the word of God!

Faith Comes By Hearing.
And how does the word get in your head so it comes out of your mouth?  Faith comes by “hearing, and hearing by the WORD OF GOD.”  When life happens, the Holy Spirit brings to mind what you have “heard.”  He cannot, however, bring to mind that which you have not heard.  We need to hear, and hear, and hear, and keep on hearing.

(For more on that topic, you may follow the link below:

2 Timothy 1:7 “The Lord has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of sound mind.”

When life comes at you, Jesus’ voice whispers to you, “Fear not; I am with you.”  When the devil comes and says to you, “Look at so-and-so,” or, “Your family always gets this or that disease.  You’re going to get it, too,” Jesus says, “Be not afraid.  I am your health.”

The Holy Spirit comes to your rescue by reminding you of what you have heard.  How can He bring to mind that which you have not heard?  The obvious answer is, “He can’t.”

Transformed By Beholding.
As you hear by studying God’s word, you are changed.  You become calm in stressful situations because you are resting; you are seated in Christ.  You understand how to guard your heart so it doesn’t fail you because of fear.

Your calm demeanor is a witness to your family, your friends, and your colleagues.  Jesus said you will “Be witnesses,” not that you will “DO” witnessing.”  By “hearing” you are transformed because you are beholding Jesus.  You go see Him in all the stories, types and shadows that you are studying now, like looking at Jesus through an expanded view!

You see, while the doctrines of our faith are found in the New, the details are in the Old. Now, when you read through this book of laws, you’ll be able to see Jesus in the details of these amazing Five Offerings of Leviticus.
