Fear Not: Psalm 91 Series Part 4 of 7.

Psalm 91:5-8
“You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.
Only with your eyes shall you look, And see the reward of the wicked.”
This portion of Psalm 91 is probably the best known and most quoted of any Psalm.  What comfort and assurance it has offered believers down through history! No matter where we are or what is happening, we can be fully assured that Jesus is there: Blessing, protecting, preserving, and/or delivering, even if the trouble is of our own making.  We can walk through life without fear, even though we live in a world that is spiraling out of control; a world that has become the most dangerous time in history.
Kinds Of Protection.
Though penned thousands of years ago, this psalm details what kind of dangers there would be in the last days: Like now.  Below is a list of them and the threats that would be the hallmark of the end times.  And how good is our protection? THE BEST! 💖
#1. TERROR BY NIGHT.
Terror is not a new thing in the world.  But in these last days, it has escalated to a fever pitch. There are militant followers of Mohammed on the rampage, beheading innocent victims; terror attacks by so-called “Lone wolves;” Iran threatening to build nuclear weapons (yeah, like they haven’t already).
There are conflicts and riots between ethnic groups; rioting and destruction of private property, policemen ambushed by cowardly criminals, crazed people killing our children in their schools and at public gatherings, terrorists pouring across our southern (non) border, you name it!
North Korea has been escalating it’s threats of nuclear terrorism with missiles that can reach other countries. If President Trump had not negotiated with their leader, it might have gotten really ugly!
In the midst of it all, our God protects His covenant people from all of it. HALLELUJAH!    Fear not. 💖
“COVENANT” is the operative word here.  As you learned in part 2 of this series, God is not in full control of this world and not everyone is under His protection.  This can also include Christians if they “SAY” or believe wrong things about God that are not true, like “He allows accidents or suffering to teach us a lesson.”  HE DOES NOT.
You see, suffering, accidents, sickness, calamities, and natural disasters are not from our Father, they are from the devil.  But the extent to which you believe these things are from God, to that extent God cannot protect you because of your wrong belief.  He is a great Respector of your free will.

God Himself says we do not need to fear ANY terror attacks!💖

#2. The arrow that flies by day.

God is not really referring to a stick with feathers on one end and and an arrowhead on the other here, though that would certainly be included.  Applying this to our day, think “MISSILES,” not arrows.
In the 21st century, this is a very real threat.  Many countries today have ICBMs that can even reach America.  They have threatened the United Stated as well as other countries around the world. Though they are a credible threat, God says to us, “FEAR NOT.” 💖
#3.  The pestilence that walks in darkness.
Ever hear stories of people who eat right, exercise regularly, appear strong and healthy, then suddenly drop dead of a heart attack!?  Or, maybe you know of someone went to their doctor thinking everything is okay only to learn he has 6 months to live.  Both of them were harboring a silent killer in their bodies, a “Pestilence that walks in darkness.”  In other words, a disease process that went undetected.  Well, God says we don’t need to be afraid of that either! 💖
#4. The destruction that lays waste at noonday.
This is complete blanket protection!  It covers every kind of danger, every kind of attack, accident, or natural disaster, be it physical, emotional, or spiritual from anywhere, any time.
There are so many devastating disasters that are happening in these end times:  Tsunamis, earthquakes, wild fires, hurricanes, damaging snow storms, crazy weather, not to mention the man-made disasters!
God continues to tell us this one thing: “Do not be afraid.” 💖
#5.  “A thousand may fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand but it will not come near you.” 💖
Just like Rahab, who put her trust in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, you and I can trust in our God to do the same.  When the walls of Jericho fell, HER HOUSE WAS THE ONLY ONE LEFT STANDING.  Though people are attacked and falling at your side or your right hand, IT WILL NOT COME NEAR YOU.
You and your house will be safe regardless of what is going on in the world.  Others around you may get the latest virus going around but you can stand on God’s promise:  It will NOT come near you!
There have been miraculous stories of deliverance because of believers who have trusted in the protection of God found in this Psalm.  Below are two that will really bless and give you hope!
Miracle Of Dunkirk.
Ever heard of the MIRACLE OF DUNKIRK?  Most people have.  Hollywood recently released a movie about it.  But they make no mention this part of the story.
Here’s the scene: The German Army was advancing on British and French troops on the beaches around Dunkirk. The 330,000 men trapped there were like sitting ducks.
The beach at Dunkirk, unfortunately, has a very shallow slope, so no large boats with a deep draft could get near enough to where the men were located.
In order to rescue them, a lot of smaller boats with a shallow draft were going to be needed.  Miraculously, 800 of these now legendary little ships just showed up. 😮 It is believed that the smallest of these to make the journey across the English Channel was the Tamzine, an 18-foot long, open topped fishing boat!  Incredible! 😁🙌🏻
That’s the story everybody knows.  What most do not know is that many of these men were Christians who called on the God in Whom they trusted to rescue them.  They did so by reciting Psalm 91 over and over.  But they didn’t just say it…..THEY SHOUTED IT BOLDLY AT THE TOP OF THEIR LUNGS!!! 🙌🏻
Well, our awesome Abba both HEARD AND ANSWERED!  All 330,000 men were safely evacuated.  Not ONE was lost. 💖  Seemingly out of nowhere, fishing boats, pleasure boats, crafts of all sizes and descriptions just showed up.  Every single man was brought to safety!!!  Oh yeah…..OUR GOD DELIVERS!
Miracle Of The Bombing Of London.
Another very curious story of protection happened during the second World War during the bombing of London.
The story is told of an elderly lady who also trusted in her God.  She, too, believed in this Psalm of protection.  She said this to God, “Since You watch over me day AND night, there is no sense in both of us staying awake.  So I’ll go to sleep; You watch.” 💖
This lady did not go to the bomb shelters when the sirens began sounding the alarm.  Nope.  She stayed in her own house and went to sleep.  That night, the German Luftwaffe conducted a bombing raid.
In the morning, every other house in her neighborhood was completely destroyed.  But just like Rahab’s house on the wall of Jericho, hers was THE ONLY ONE LEFT STANDING! 😮💖
Her neighbors, fearing the worst, rushed to her house in the morning to see how she was only to find her safe, sound, and well-rested.  THAT’S MY GOD!  HALLELUJAH! 💖
Destruction may be all around you, but it does not come near those who are in covenant with Abba and who have put their trust in Him.  A thousand may fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand BUT IT WILL NOT COME NEAR YOU.  Only with your EYES shall you look and see the reward of the wicked!! 💖
THAT’S WHY WE FEAR NOT.
You may follow the link below to Part 5 where we’ll discuss just how many angels are surrounding and protecting us.  Take a wild guess. I’ll bet it won’t even come close! 😉:
