The Law Is Fulfilled IN Us, Not By Us.

Romans 8:3-5
“3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be FULFILLED IN US who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.”

Condemned In The Flesh.
Paul said that God condemned sin “in the flesh.”  He sent Jesus to die to sin “in the flesh” SO THAT the righteous requirement of the Law might be fulfilled.  In so doing, Jesus  didn’t abolish the law; He fulfilled it!
It says of Him in Colossians 2:14, “having WIPED OUT THE HANDWRITING OF REQUIREMENTS {the Ten Commandments} that was against us, which was contrary to us. And HE HAS TAKEN IT (the Law) OUT OF THE WAY, having nailed it (the Law) to the cross.”

The LAW is the Ten Commandments, HANDWRITTEN by God on stone tablets.  To be more specific, tablets of Sapphire.  Not familiar with the Sapphire stone tablets?  No problem!

Ananias And Sapphira.

Illuminating Greek.
What He did made it possible for the law to be fulfilled IN US…..not “BY US,” because He nailed ALL THE REQUIREMENTS TO THE CROSS.  He did the work: WE BENEFIT, as if we did it!  That’s why we are not under law; we are under grace.

The word, “fulfilled,” in Greek, is “pléroó.”  It is in the Aorist-Subjunctive-Passive tense, meaning that it is a one-time, never-to-be-repeated act that was done “TO US.”   You and I had NOTHING to do with this having been done other than the fact that we accepted Jesus’ free (to us) gift.
Upon our acceptance of His free gift, Jesus’ perfect law-keeping was credited to us as our law-keeping ONCE FOR ALL TIME, NEVER TO BE REPEATED.  As far as sin is concerned, between us and God, IT IS A DONE DEAL.

As Jesus died to sin…and He died ONCE…so we, too, when we come to faith in Christ, also die to sin like He did…ONCE.  None of this “dying daily” nonsense unless, of course, those who hold to that “false doctrine” should also say that Jesus “dies daily” to sin.

AS IF!!!  Wash your mouth out with soap!  Because you and I are baptized into His death AND resurrected to newness of life in the same manner that Jesus was:  ONCE!  ONE TIME. FOREVER AND EVER…..Therefore…..

YOU NEED NEVER AGAIN TO ASK GOD TO FORGIVE YOUR SINS TO BE MADE RIGHT WITH HIM.  They are put away ONCE and for all.  You also do not need to “TRY” to keep the law by your own efforts.  Now when you fail, you come to your Father, confess to Him that you need help in a particular area, and allow Him to work through you to accomplish His good pleasure.
Working Our Your Own Salvation.
Give up your pretentions to righteousness, admit that you are powerless to overcome your bad habit or habitual sin, and allow the Holy Spirit to work in you.  Then you can “work out” what He “works in.”  That’s what it means to “work out your own salvation.”  It’s “your own” because the problems that plague you are different from the things that others find a problem.
-Does that make people become more “LAW-LESS” because they know they are no longer under the 10?  Don’t be ridiculous.  OF COURSE NOT.  For one thing, we are counted forever righteous because JESUS FINISHED THE WORK and, secondly, He directs us from within by the Holy Spirit.  Believe Him when He says HE IS MORE THAN CAPABLE OF LEADING US WITHOUT OUTSIDE HELP.

In that knowledge we are now able to walk in holiness and righteousness, empowered by knowing we are eternally right with God.  HALLELUJAH!  Thank God that the FULL REQUIREMENT of the law was fulfilled IN us:  NOT performed BY us.
