What’s In Your Water? Ashes Of The Red Heifer Part 9 Of 9

Exodus 15:23-25

“Now when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah.  And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”  So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet.”

We’ve been studying the law concerning the ashes of the red heifer and how it pertains to water.  We’re now going to discover that there are two kinds of “water.”  In the dispensation of the New Covenant, water is a depiction of the word of God.  It is not only the written word but the spoken as well.  However, it is the content of your water with which God is so concerned.

What’s In YOUR Water?

What do the bitter waters of Marah have to do with all this? 🤔 As stated above, water throughout the Bible is a typology of God’s word.  But not every word in scripture qualifies as “The waters that PURIFY AND BRING LIFE.”  Many waters can actually bring sickness and death. The waters of Marah, which means “Bitter,” in Hebrew, are a typology of such words.  

You see, just because someone is preaching from the Bible doesn’t mean that their words will minister grace to the hearers. Some (sadly), minister the condemnation of the law. 😓 For instance:  If you are not hearing that you are beloved of the Father, that you are still the righteousness of God in Christ even when you fail, you are hearing the the condemnation of the law…………..OR…….…..Maybe you were told that God is displeased or angry with you when you fail.  

In either case, you are being washed with the waters (Word) that bring a curse, not the water (Word) that cleanses and purifies.  That preacher is washing you with the bitter waters of Marah which bring a curse.

Let’s take a little trip back in history to the incident at Marah for it has much to teach us.

Bitter Waters.

When the Children of Israel left Egypt, they were brought out with signs, wonders, and great miracles.  They passed through the Red Sea, a most AWESOME display of God’s power, and three days later came to Marah. The waters there were bitter and not fit to drink, so naturally the Israelites complained about it to Moses.

The same Hebrew word used here for bitter in the story of Marah is also used in Numbers 5, the chapter where the law concerning jealousy is recorded.

You see, if a husband became jealous and thought his wife had been unfaithful to him, he was to bring her to the priest who would write down the CURSES OF THE LAW in a book, scrape them off into a vessel of water, thereby making them bitter, or “Marah.”  The woman was then instructed to drink the water. If she was indeed guilty, as her husband suspected, her belly would swell, her thigh would rot, and she would be a curse among the people.  (Kinda sounds like cancer, doesn’t it?)  But if she was innocent, she would be free of any curse and able to bear children.

What are the bitter “WATERS” (words) that bring a curse today?  THE LAW, of course.….and how did the water of Marah become sweet?  God told them to throw in a “tree,” a picture of the cross! GOD’S ANSWER IS ALWAYS THE CROSS!!!

Cleansing With Sweet Waters.

As for the water that cleanses, it goes far beyond merely cleansing of moral and spiritual “dust.” Jesus calls us His bride in Ephesians.  At one time “The bride” was all Jewish.  Today it is predominantly non-Jews, (formerly Gentiles).  Remember the story of Joseph who married a Gentile bride during his time of rejection in Egypt? That’s a picture of the non-Jewish Church! How are we, His Bride, cleansed and made whole?  

**THIS IS SOMETHING THE DEVIL DOES NOT WANT YOU TO KNOW.**  

WE ARE MADE WHOLE INSIDE AND OUT BY WATER CONTAINING THE ASHES OF THE RED HEIFER!  

Simply put, the words that we speak to each other or preach to the Church must be words that contain no judgment or condemnation: No bitterness.  

THEY MUST BE WORDS ABOUT THE FINISHED WORK:  In other words, containing The ashes of the red heifer in which all judgment has been exhausted!!!

If you understand this, you understand what Solomon could not.  Understand? 😀 

Dusty Feet.

You see, the devil hates a Church that regularly washes with the sweet waters of the words of Grace!  He has no answer to them nor power over them.  That’s why evil spirits love dry, dusty places, not well-watered ones.  The devil wants you and I to be all dusty and dirty as believers so he can devour us, i.e. give us sickness and disease, and to make us less effective witnesses in this world.

Jesus illustrates the relationship between Himself and His Church by using the relationship between a husband and wife.  We are cleansed both inside…no spiritual SPOT…and outside…No physical WRINKLE.  Wrinkle is also a sign of old age.  In other words, physically and spiritually whole and healthy.

Remember the red heifer had to be clean inside and no yoke outside?  That is what the water of the word containing the ashes does for us today.  It cleanses our bodies of disease and washes the dust of this life off our feet.  We call it “dust” because God said to the serpent that he would crawl on his belly and eat “dust” all the days of his life.

The extent to which you have “DUST” clinging to you is the extent to which you are DEVOURABLE.

A Roaring Lion

The devil cannot do anything about the fact that you and I are going to heaven.  What he can do is try to get you to go there faster.  He knows that when we are in heaven, we can no longer be of any earthly good to spread the Gospel.

So…..when ol’ slimy comes to you and starts talking trash to you about your sins; you know, your “DUNG,” you just remind him that yours have already been judged–BURNED UP TO ASHES–and you have been declared righteous!  There is no more judgment of any kind for you EVER, either in this world or the next.

Jesus’ Love For Us In The Book Of Leviticus.

Sin/sickness both required that the “UNclean” person go through a “cleansing” process. So make sure you wash daily with the water of the word containing the ashes of the red heifer. The cleansing process is outlined below:

Cleansing Process.

Numbers 19:18 “A CLEAN PERSON shall take HYSSOP and DIP IT IN THE WATER, SPRINKLE IT on the tent, on all the vessels, on the persons who were there, or on the one who touched a bone, the slain, the dead, or a grave.”

The water was applied in the Old Testament by sprinkling the unclean person with Hyssop dipped in the water containing the ashes of the red heifer.  Why this particular plant? Hyssop is the smallest “Tree” or plant in Israel.  The smallest member of our body, according to scripture, is the tongue.  Hyssop is a representative of the tongue!  (See James 3:5.)

So…..take the hyssop…..your tongue…..dip it in the water (the words of God containing the ashes of the red heifer, i.e., grace-filled words)…..and sprinkle it liberally over yourself, your family, your loved ones, and your friends. Do it daily.  Do it often.  Apply liberally!  

This is how today we apply the ancient law concerning the Ashes of the Red Heifer under the New Covenant.  Be sure you are not using the “waters of Marah” containing the bitterness and condemnation of the law. Instead, use the water of grace-filled words: The Ashes of the Red Heifer.
