Genesis 15:4-6  “And, behold, the word of the LORD [יהוה] came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.  And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy SEED be.  And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.”

This Name of God, “YHVH,” is most amazing of all.  It literally means “I AM.”  but it is so much more than that. It is called the “Unpronounceable Tetragrammaton” of the Holy One of Israel and the Hebrew Name of God used in the opening scripture.  Its Hebrew spelling is pictured above.

In the English text when this word is translated, it appears as all upper case letters:

“L-O-R-D.”

As pictured above, it is actually a composite of three words which encompasses past, present, and future tense. We often put vowels among the letters in order to pronounce it because, unlike the Jews, we are not afraid that God will punish us.  After all, He is our Father and we are His children. We are sons and daughters, not servants.

The Difference Between Servants And Sons

One God; Many Names.

God was known by many Names in the Old Testament:  Elohim, Jehovah Nissi, Jehovah Rapha, El Shaddai, etc.  When I first learned the meaning of this particular Name of God, however, it so captivated my heart that it prompted me to study the Hebrew language. Not only that, I was so moved, I fell on my face and wept for half an hour. It’s SO awesome how His great love for us shines out so clearly through this one Name. ❤️

He loves us so far above and beyond all measure and understanding.  He is the faithful and true: The Covenant-keeping One; The One Who gave up everything to save us so that we could be with Him forever!!!

First Mention.
There is a “Law,” if you will, of first mention in studying the Bible that says, “Any time a subject or word is first mentioned, there is something important for us to learn.  It is the principle of interpreting of Scripture which states that “The first mention or occurrence of a subject in Scripture establishes an unchangeable pattern with that subject. It remains unchanged in the mind of God throughout Scripture.”
The first mention of any word, phrase, or subject gives us the key to revealing biblical truths hidden in scripture in words, names, and numbers. Even the order in which they are mentioned has meaning. All of these things combine to tell in beautiful, sometimes excruciating, detail the matchless story of our Messiah, Jesus.
The first mention of this Name of God is in Genesis 2:4.  It not mentioned earlier because He is the covenant keeping One.  You see, before man was created, there was only “Elohim:  Creator God.”  He couldn’t be the Covenant keeping One because there was no one with whom to make a covenant.  There were no people!
But wait! There’s so much more! In the Hebrew language itself, there are some awesome truths hidden in the actual letters of His Name.

Secrets In The Hebrew Language.

Hebrew is a form of picture writing, like Chinese.  There are a total of 22 letters. Each one is a picture of something.  These “pictures” are very consistent. The letter pictures God uses to spell Hebrew words actually give us a glimpse into their meaning from from His perspective, something you would never find in any definition. No wonder it is God’s language of choice!  One thing becomes crystal clear when you understand these pictures:
Sacrifice was written into His Name from the very beginning. 😭♥️
His Name in Hebrew is spelled like this:
👉🏻 [יהוה] 👈🏻
The letters, from right to left are, “Yud-hei-vav-hei.”

[י] Yud is that teeny, tiny little curved line that looks like a comma.  It is a picture of an open hand.  Hand speaks of power, but also of human effort, apart from trusting God.  It is also the number “10.”  You see, unlike here in the West, Hebrew uses letters for numbers.  In certain instances, you can also see “yod” is being used to refer to the ten commandments and even the tithe.

[ה]  Hei is a picture of an open window as well as the number “5.”  And what does God open to pour out His blessings?  The “windows of heaven!”  That’s why we say “5” is the number of Grace! 💖

[ו]  Vav is a picture of a “hook” or “nail.”

Do you see it yet?  [יהוה] Yod-hei-vav-hei means: Open Hand of Grace, Nailed in Grace.  It’s a picture of Jesus on the cross!!!.  AWESOME!!! 💖

Superscription.

Hold on a minute…..that’s not all. Remember the superscription above our Jesus on the cross that had the Pharisees in a panic?  Would you like to know the real reason the Pharisees were so bent out of shape about it?  Check this out:

Yeshua HaNazari Vemelekh HaYehudim:  This is the transliteration of the Hebrew written above Jesus’ head.  Looks benign enough, right?  Wait till you see what the Pharisees saw:  It was something else ENTIRELY!!!…..Something FAR different than any non-Jewish person would have caught.
You see, they know the Torah.  They know their language far beyond INTIMATELY.  The rabbis are well aware of many phenomena in the Hebrew text having long ago discovered that, throughout the Torah, there are hidden messages IN ACROSTIC form.
Here’s what the Pharisees saw:
“Y”eshua———-Jesus

“H”aNazari——–Of Nazareth.
V”emelekh——–King
“H”aYehudim—–Of the Jews

surprised emoji

It’s an acrostic that spells Yahweh!  Y H V H

The first letters of each of the words of the superscription shown below spell YaHVeH (The vowels have been added to help you pronounce His Name.)

Is it any wonder that those green-eyed Pharisees wanted it changed?  They hated Jesus because they were no longer getting all the attention.  Jealous?  You betcha!

God Used Pilate.
Pilot, who was an ignorant Gentile with no spiritual insight or understanding WHATSOEVER, had NO IDEA what he had done, of course.  God used this clueless, pagan barbarian to unwittingly SHOUT TO THE WHOLE WORLD:

“THIS IS GOD:  The Great I AM…..YaHWeH!!!”

And that, Church, is the beautiful, incomparable meaning of YHVH, the Name of God.

The words “The LORD” is NOT a true or correct translation. Actually, the reason the name of Yahweh was never correctly translated into most (not all) English Bibles is because the Jews (of Judaism) in the early centuries were taught that Yahweh’s name was too holy to say or write. So when they encounter His name the say “Hashem.” The words “The LORD” is NOT a true or correct translation. It is not even a transliteration of YHWH. The Bible says in Pslams 34:3 “O magnify Yahweh with me, and let us exalt his name together.” When you encounter the name David in the New Testament it is identical to the spelling and pronounciation seen in the Old Testament. The same is true of Moses, Elijah and many others. Then why, oh why, have the true names of Yahweh and Yahshua been concealed over the centuries? hmm. Could it be that “someone” doesn’t want Yahweh’s holy name revealed and spoken and written?

The words “The LORD” are NOT a translation or even a transliteration of YHWH Yahweh. The translators of the Hebrew scriptures in the early centuries were all taught in Judaism which mandated that YHWH’s name was too holy to say or write. That is how “the LORD” was derived. Both Yahshua’s name (widely known in the English speaking world as Jesus) and the Father Yahweh’s name are to be declared according to Ps 22:22 “I will declare Your Name to My brothers; I will praise You in the midst of the assembly.” And in Pslams 34:3 “O magnify Yahweh with me, and let us exalt His Name together.” And, why oh, why, do you read the name David, Moses, Elijah and more in both the Old and New Testament, yet the name Yahshua (derived from Yah-weh, meaning Salvation of Yah) is never to be seen. The translators came up with “Iēsous” and then “Jesus”, neither of which are true translations. It is almost like “someone” doesn’t want the true names of Yahweh and Yahshua to be proclaimed. Surely not, because that would be a conspiracy theory.

You are quite correct. Absolutely true! The Jewish people were and, of course, still are VERY CAREFUL about the use of The NAME. Under the New Covenant, however, we need not be under such fear as we are not slaves but Son and Daughters. While we must have the same reverence for Him, we cannot be struck dead for mispronouncing His Name. Because of Christ, He cannot reprove us since all our debts are paid by His blood.
