First-Born Blessing: Double Portion Of The Triune God!

Romans 8:11
“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

The First-born Blessing was a coveted honor in the Old Testament. The Father of the first born would place his right hand on the head of the oldest son and confer the blessing which was a DOUBLE PORTION of all that he had, for he was the beginning of his strength.

Double Portion.
In this little verse from Romans 8, God is conferring on you and I the blessing of the first born. It reminds us that we have LIVING WITHIN US the Spirit of the living God, Who raised Jesus from the dead.  That’s power!!!  As if that weren’t good enough, we have a DOUBLE PORTION of that power of the Trinity right here in these 37 words.

Trinity Mentioned Twice.

I’m sure you noticed the bold words in RED.  The Triune God is mentioned not once but TWICE.  So instead of a double portion of an earthly blessing, WE HAVE A DOUBLE PORTION OF THE BLESSING OF THE TRIUNE GOD!!

One Blessing, Three Persons, Double Portion!
Let’s take a closer look at this verse and see how the Trinity is mentioned twice.

“The Spirit of Him Who raised Jesus from the dead…”

Let’s expand and rephrase the first part to clarify.  “If the (1) Spirit/the Holy Spirit of the (2) Him/the Father Who raise (3) Jesus/the Son…”

Here we have the Holy Spirit, the Father, and the Son mentioned once.  That’s great in and of itself! Here’s the second half of this powerful verse:

(1) “He/the Father Who raised (2) Christ/the Son from the dead shall also give life to your mortal bodies through (3) His Spirit/the Holy Spirit Who dwells within you.”

See? The Trinity is mentioned twice!

Promise For Here, Not Hereafter.

Notice it says that He will give life to your “Mortal bodies?”  This promise is not for after you die or after Jesus comes again, it specifically says, “Mortal bodies.”  This promise is for us, here and now, while we walk on this earth!  💖💖💖

Jesus came to give us LIFE, not death.  LIFE to your mortal bodies means “Health!”  We get to walk in the power of the Trinity NOW, not by and by.

(Four coverings of the Tabernacle.)

Promised Messiah/Promise Fulfilled.
There you have it. A double portion of the power of the Trinity in one verse!  But I see something else here.  Notice that the first mention of the Son is “Jesus” but the second mention of the Son is “Christ.” This is no accident!

Everywhere in the Gospels, Jesus is either called or referred to as “Jesus Christ.”  Jesus is mentioned first; Christ, His title, second.  In the epistles to the Church, however, it reversed.  You and I are sanctified, not in Jesus Christ, but “in Christ Jesus.”  Why?  Read on…

visa versa
Jesus’ Name literally means, “Salvation;” But His title, “Christ,” means, “Messiah.”  You see, before He shed His blood, He was the “Promised Messiah.” Old Testament prophets and writers called Him by His Hebrew name and title, “Y’Shuah HaMesshiah,” which literally translated is “Jesus Christ.”  But after He arose from the dead, He became forevermore “the Promise FULFILLED!”  That’s why we are referred to as “IN Christ Jesus.” His title now proceeds His Name.

This verse is so beautifully portrayed in the construction of the tabernacle of Moses.  To read all about it and see more wonderful things about our Lord Jesus, you may follow the link below. Though it’s a rather lengthy discussion, I hope you will be greatly blessed:
